Republicans Nominate Trump for 2018 Noble Peace Prize

Republicans Nominate Trump for 2018 Noble Peace Prize

In a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, dated May 2, Rep. Luke Messer (R-Ind.) and 17 other House lawmakers - including Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Diane Black (R-Tenn.) and Steve King (R-Iowa) - wrote that Trump has worked "tirelessly to apply maximum pressure to North Korea to end its illicit weapons programs and bring peace to the region".

The president's fans clearly feel the same, with the crowd at a rally in MI last Saturday chanting "Nobel, Nobel" as the president discussed the situation in North Korea. Trump has said the U.S.is working hard to win the Americans' freedom.

Several Republicans have backed President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, including Sen. Those on the five-person committee are able to add additional names to the list after the nomination is closed, but that meeting had already happened by the time people began to call for Trump to receive the prize.

The president is preparing for a potential summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, tentatively scheduled for May or early June.

USA should learn to live with a nuclear North Korea, panelists sayThe center for East Asian Studies and the Madison Institute held a discussion Monday about the military and communications crisis Read... Trump's supporters on Capitol Hill are pushing the idea that he deserves a Nobel, and Trump clearly enjoyed it Saturday when supporters at a MI rally began chanting "Nobel" as he talked about North Korea. He's trying to become the GOP nominee for a spot in the U.S. Senate.

In January, Moon said Trump "deserves big credit for bringing about the inter-Korean talks".

No Evidence of Collusion Between Russia and Trump Campaign
Meanwhile, the Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation is moving ahead, along with special counsel Robert Mueller's probe. The committee also did not agree with assessments that Russian President Vladimir Putin preferred Trump to Hillary Clinton.

All comes after the President and the North Korean leader traded insults last fall as North Korea was testing rockets capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

In late February the committee took the unusual step of announcing a nomination for Mr Trump had been forged - not once, but twice, and by the same person.

Supporters of Mr Trump point to the fact former president Barack Obama won a Nobel prize after just eight months in office in 2009.

As senator Lindsey Graham said through giggles on Fox News this week: "I want to be there - it may be the first time the Nobel peace prize was given and there was mass casualties, because I think a lot of liberals would kill themselves if they did that".

Beyond Obama, three other USA presidents have received the award: Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter.

President Donald Trump departs the White House in Washington, en route to a rally in Michigan, April 28, 2018.
