Trump to Russia: "Get ready" for United States missile strikes on Syria

Trump to Russia:

US President Donald Trump told Russian Federation in an early morning tweet to prepare for "nice and new and 'smart!'" missile attacks in Syria after an alleged gas attack on the last rebel stronghold in the country.

President Donald Trump warned Russian Federation that missiles are coming for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The move comes just hours after Donald Trump warned of imminent military action over the purported chemical attack in the rebel enclave on Saturday.

Russian Federation and Iran, Syria's allies, have also denied that Mr. Assad used chemical weapons.

Later Wednesday morning, Mr. Trump tweeted that Washington's relationship with Moscow is "worse now than it has ever been".

Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for Russia's foreign ministry, responded to Trump's tweet Wednesday, saying any missiles launched in retaliation should target terrorists, not the Syrian government. It is not in Russia's interest to escalate the war, so the Russians would probably urge restraint again if the USA and allied attack was limited, the former official said.

Mr Trump said the Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad is a "gas killing animal".

Meanwhile, the Syrian government has put its forces on "high alert" amid the looming threat of a U.S. military response.

Theresa May is reportedly moving submarines towards Syria, and may authorise a military strike without a vote in Parliament.

Trump has been weighing his course of action in Syria following the suspected chemical attack, which he described as "sick" over the weekend. The president urged Moscow to stop the arms race it was conducting, as Russian Federation needed the US' help.

Last week, the White House announced that the USA military mission in Syria "is coming to a rapid end".

Russia's military has propped up Assad's regime as it wages a multiway war against both the so-called Islamic State and various antigovernment forces.

Russia's ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Zasypkin, had warned that the federation's military will shoot down USA rockets and "even the sources that launched the missiles".
