SpaceX completes sixth successful launch of 2018

SpaceX completes sixth successful launch of 2018

SpaceX is targetting a 10:13 a.m. EDT launch on Friday for the Iridium-5 NEXT mission.

SpaceX announced: "This is the fifth set of 10 satellites in a series of 75 total satellites that SpaceX will launch for Iridium's next generation global satellite constellation, IridiumĀ® NEXT".

SpaceX isn't going to attempt to recover the previously used Falcon 9 again, but it does plan to try to catch the fairing (the nose cone that covers the payload during launch) via Mr. Steven, a cargo ship equipped with a huge net. Iridium is now in the process of building out its NEXT constellation of communications satellites, and in all, it will be comprised of 75 satellites. SapceX has been working for a long time to ensure that its Falcon rockets can be used repeatedly, which will save a ton of money since SpaceX won't have to construct new rockets for each launch it performs.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter the fairing "impacted water at high speed", without confirming explicitly if the landing was successful or not. The mobile voice and data communications company's final launches of this $3 billion satellite replacement project are expected to happen by the end of 2018.

At the same time, commercial communication to Iridium clients on the ground was made successful as the 10 satellites were deployed to the Low-Earth orbit as planned.

"One Is To One": Mamata Banerjee's Template For 2019 General Elections
Banerjee visited Parliament on Tuesday where she met Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut and Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar . We are strongly with her and (SP leader) Akhilesh Yadav in this mission for the nation", she had tweeted.

Friday's launch brings to 50 the number of Iridium Next satellites in orbit. Musk tweeted after the February 22 launch from Vandenberg that the boat missed catching the fairing "by a few hundreds meters", adding that the fairing slowed down enough to land "intact" in the Pacific Ocean. You can also assemble a rocket in a game-like AR interactive for an up-close look at what it takes to launch and land a rocket. However, the recovery of the fairing is certainly something that the company would like to accomplish. So in recent years the company had tested options for safely returning the payload fairings to the ocean, and then "catching" them with a boat.

Starting an hour after launch, the satellites were released one by one approximately every 100 seconds, taking about 15 minutes to successfully complete delivery.

This is one of many missions that SpaceX is carrying out for Iridium.

That rocket is scheduled to lift off Monday afternoon from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
