Dozens reported dead after plane crashes in Algeria

In February 2014, another Algerian military transport plane, this time a USA -built C-130, crashed into a snowy mountain in eastern Algeria killing 77 people with just a single survivor.

Emergency services rushed to the crash site, near a military base in Boufarik, about 15 miles southwest of Algiers.

Releasing a press statement the Algerian Defence Ministry said cause of the crash is not yet known and an investigation has been ordered.

President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's called for three days of official mourning for the soldiers and their families aboard the plane.

Four years ago, another plane carrying military personnel and family members crashed in Algeria, killing 77 people. Ten crew members were also killed.

Around 100 military personnel were on board the Ilyushin Il-76 transport plane, a military source told AFP, asking not to be named.

Dozens of others were earlier reported injured in the crash, which sent dark smoke billowing into the sky.
