Two militants killed, three policemen injured in Srinagar gunfight

An official said that the parts of the body were recovered from the encounter site in Balhama, and is believed to be a foreign militant.

The body of another militant was on Saturday recovered from the site of Friday's encounter in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, taking the number of ultras killed in the operation to three, police said.

A large cache of arms and other incriminating material has also been seized from the slain terrorists.

In connection with this incident, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and an investigation has been initiated.

Earlier, two militants were killed in the encounter that ensued on Thursday after a group of militants made an abortive bid to snatch a rifle of the personal guard of BJP leader Mohammad Anwar Khan near Arsh medical institute in Balhama Khanmoh on Thursday.

The gunfight between the security forces and terrorists took place in Balhama area of Khonmoh in outskirts of Srinagar.

Following the attack, the area has been cordoned off by government forces.

Four houses were damaged in the gunfight.

Local villagers said they heard the sound of gunfire and saw contingents of police and army in the area.

"As per recent update a gunfight has begun and militants have been hold up", the spokesman said.

Senior Superintendent of Police in Srinagar district Imtiaz Ismail Parray said that the body of the third militant was recovered today by the search party.
