Trump touts paper ballots as bulwark against Russian election meddling

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he's not anxious that Moscow will meddle in the upcoming midterm elections because the US will take steps to prevent it.

"The Russians had no impact on our vote". But, wait for it, "probably there was meddling from other countries, and maybe other individuals". "So it doesn't look good when it all comes out of China, so they send it through other countries and it comes to us", he said.

During a news conference with his Swedish counterpart, Trump also promised his proposed tariffs on steel and aluminum will be applied in a "very loving way", declared the North Koreans were "sincere" in their renewed push for talks and insisted the United States would rebut Russian efforts to interfere in the 2018 congressional contests. "We're doing a very, very deep study, and we're coming out with some I think very strong suggestions on the '18 election", he added. One of the things we're learning, it's always good to have a paper back-up system of voting. It also acts as a protecting power for the USA in the country.

He would only say he enjoys conflict in the White House, that he hears opposite opinions and then makes a decision. "We really have no choice", Trump said in response to a question. You don't want your system of votes to be compromised in any way. I like watching it.

The president's pledge for action, which would be in line with a one of his campaign promises, came after House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin called for a "more surgical approach" that would help avert a potentially risky trade war.

Just a couple of hours later, news broke that Gary Cohn, one of Trump's top economic advisers, is leaving the administration, after apparently losing an internal struggle over steel and aluminum tariffs.

30 feared killed in Burkina Faso terror attack
French government sources said there had been no French casualties and described the situation in Ouagadougou as "under control". Burkina Faso has been rocked by insecurity since Blaise Compaore was ousted by a popular uprising in 2014.

Löfven, in his brief remarks, said, "Swedish prosperity is based on corporation competitiveness and free trade, and I'm convinced that increased tariffs will hurt us all in the long run".

Trump was adamant that he would proceed with the planned import penalties but said he will do "it in a very loving way", despite mounting opposition from Republicans and world leaders.

Republican Sen. David Perdue of Georgia, who opposes the tariffs, said after meeting Tuesday with White House chief of staff John Kelly that the administration was willing to consider his views. "I've conveyed that to the President", the PM said. And North Korean leadership even expressed a willingness to have talks with the United States in hopes of normalizing the relationship.

"No, because we'll counteract whatever they do", he said.

"The WH has tremendous energy...so many people want to come in...everybody wants to be there, and they love this White House", @POTUS says, disputing known challenges administration has in recruiting new personnel for West Wing as exodus publicly chronicled.
