Police say bombs caused both Austin blasts

The Austin interim police chief, Brian Manley, warned residents on Monday not to touch any unexpected or suspicious packages. All three explosions were from packages left on the front porches of homes. Police say the teen died at the scene, while the woman was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The latest explosions happened during the South by Southwest music, film and technology festival, which brings about 400,000 visitors to Austin each year. "We have innocent people being hurt".

The Monday blasts were in homes about four miles (6 km) apart in East Austin, a predominantly Hispanic and minority area undergoing gentrification after a surge in the city's population. The first bomb went off this morning in East Austin, killing a 17-year-old man and injuring another woman.

The investigation into that explosion was "still very active", a police department employee said in a phone call.

Manley urged Austin residents to call police if they find any package on their doorstop that gives them "cause for concern". "He says there's now no other evidence indicating a hate crime beyond the victims' race", the AP reports.

Neighbor Keith Reynolds heard what sounded to him like a propane explosion. Emergency personnel said they transported a female in her 70s to a medical center with potentially life threatening injuries.

He says the package that exploded Monday and the one that detonated on March 2 had been left on the front doorsteps and were not delivered by a mail service.

"There are similarities that we can not rule out that these two items are, in fact, related", Manley said.

Firmly on the bubble, Alabama will likely need one or two more wins to make it into the field of 68 on Selection Sunday . The Auburn Tigers are shooting 37.1 percent from beyond the arc and 78.9 percent from the free throw line.

Federal and local investigators are still looking into the death of a man on March 2 as a possible homicide after an explosion in a Northeast Austin neighborhood.

Another blast occurred about five hours later at a home about 8 km southeast of the first explosion.

"We are putting together a task force that will work jointly until we conclude this investigation and we arrest the person or persons responsible", Manley added.

The FBI told ABC News that it was responding to the first reported explosion and assisting Austin police, who are the lead agency handling the situation.

"We are not ruling anything out at this point", said Manley, who said the intended targets were not clear since multiple people live in the homes where explosives were placed.

He says there's now no other evidence indicating a hate crime beyond the victims' race.

Manley said his office still didn't know the motive behind the attacks. At this time, there's no other evidence indicating hate crimes, other than the victims' race, he said.

"First and foremost, Cecilia and I offer our thoughts and prayers to the victims of these atrocious attacks", Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement.
