Suspect In NFL Player's Death Has Bay Area DUI, Was Deported Twice

Donald Trump tweeted on Tuesday morning that it was "disgraceful" that the man who killed Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and his Uber driver early Sunday morning was in the country illegally.

Jackson and the driver of his ride-share auto Jeffrey Monroe were killed Sunday morning after a black Ford F-150 pickup driven by a 37-year-old undocumented immigrant man struck both of them as they were standing on the side of a highway, according to police.

Manuel Orrego-Savala, a 37-year-old citizen of Guatemala, has been charged with "2 counts of leaving the scene of a fatal accident and 2 counts of drunk driving resulting in death", according to TMZ.

Orrego-Savala faces up to 10 years in prison on the immigration charge, which the US attorney's office said would be handled after any state charges are resolved.

Orrego-Savala attempted to flee the scene of the accident on foot, but he was immediately apprehended by Indiana State Police and is now being held in county jail.

Jackson, 26, and Monroe, 54, were standing outside Monroe's auto along Interstate 70 in Indianapolis after Jackson became ill while Monroe was transporting him for the ride-hailing company, police said. The inside linebacker started eight games in 2016 for the Colts but did not play this past season due to an injury. "State police investigators are working with U.S. Federal Immigration Officials and they have placed a hold on Orrego-Savala". In 2005, he was convicted for driving under the influence in Redwood City, California.

Jackson, 26, was a linebacker with the Indianapolis Colts and was a passenger in the ride-share vehicle.

"According to court documents and jail information, Alex Cabrera Gonsales is the same person as Manuel Orrego-Savala, the man now in custody in Marion County for allegedly causing Sunday's crash", Meyer said, according to WBIC Indianapolis. He was charged in Marion County on Wednesday with four felony counts.

He could face up to 10 years in prison on that charge.

Both men were standing outside the vehicle when a black Ford F-150 pickup truck drove onto the emergency shoulder and struck them and the back of the auto.

Just learned about the passing of one of my favorite teammates. He was also driving without a license. The Colts said in a statement Sunday, Feb. 4, 3018, that the team is "heartbroken" by Jackson's death.

Monroe and Jackson were pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Coroner's Office. We have weak-kneed republicans, country club republicans who sit back and say "thoughts a prayers" and this and that.

A spokesman for Jackson's family has said his relatives are devastated and planned no response to Trump's tweets about the crash and the suspect's immigration status. His other aliases include variations on the spelling of Orrego-Savala.
