Several of BB&T's banking services unavailable due to technical issue

According to a statement released Friday by the bank, customers are now able to use their credit, debit and prepaid cards without any issues.

"At this time, many of our services are unavailable, including digital banking, Phone24, and ATM".

A BB&T outage that left millions of customers unable to access their accounts overnight is finally starting to be resolved. "We will continue to provide updates here and on http://BBT.com", the Winston-Salem-based bank tweeted.

They blamed the problem on an equipment malfunction in a data center, but provided no further details.

"We are listening to our clients and we are committed to making this right", said Brian Davis, BB&T director of corporate communications.

Bank officials have apologized and said they don't believe the issue is related to a cyberattack.

The British Geological Survey said the epicentre was approximately 20km north-north-east of Swansea and at a depth of 7.4km. A magnitude 4.4 natural disaster felt in parts of Britain Saturday was its strongest in a decade.

An outage map showed the biggest repercussions were being felt in Charlotte, the Triad and the Triangle, as well as in Atlanta, Washington, Maryland and Philadelphia.

A bank spokesperson told WSOCTV, "We understand this is causing a major inconvenience for clients and our teams are continuing to work diligently to restore those services".

The bank also said that if customers have incurred fees directly related to the outage, "we will waive or reimburse those fees".

The bank restored service by 11:30 Friday morning.

BB&T said its systems would be processing updates throughout Saturday and expected account information to be current as soon as Sunday.
