An asteroid is due to whizz past the earth tonight

"Asteroids of this size do not often approach this close to our planet-maybe only once or twice a year", said Paul Chodas, the manager of NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies. While asteroid 2018 CC safely skimmed past Earth on February 6 at 12:10 p.m. PST (3:10 p.m. EST), the other asteroid 2018 CB is all set for a close flyby of Earth on February 9, Friday.

It was discovered by NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey on February 4 along with a second asteroid that measured somewhere between 15 and 30 metres.

The asteroid was found by NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) near Tucson, Arizona, that records potentially hazardous asteroids.

It will remain about 64,000 kilometres from Earth, which is less than one-fifth the distance to the Moon. The asteroid is approximately 1,000 feet or more than 300 meters across.

De Kock ruled out of ODIs, T20s against India
And the list has only grown with Quinton de Kock (left wrist injury) ruled out before the third ODI. All of this places enormous pressure on South Africa's young stand-in captain Aiden Markram .

Firstly, the object is relatively small, so it would cause a large number of injuries rather than killing billions of people and sending us back to the Stone Age.

Apart from these two asteroids, another spooky asteroid named 2015 TB145, which is known as the Halloween asteroid because of its appearance, is going to fly by our planet this year. On Tuesday, another one passed within 114,000 miles of Earth. Scientists estimated the asteroid was 50-100 feet in diameter.

Scientist had been tracking Asteroid 202 AJ129 for about a year and knowing all along that this medium sized space rock posed no threat to Earth.
