CIA: Russia will try to influence U.S. midterm elections

CIA Director Mike Pompeo said he fully expects Russian Federation to seek to interference with the 2018 midterm elections as they did in 2016. In his remarks to almost 200 AEI members and guests, Director Pompeo highlighted his approach to leading the Agency and his strong belief that the CIA workforce should be positioned to execute our mission free from unnecessary obstacles and overbearing bureaucracy.

"We see it in our schools, in our hospitals and medical systems, we see it throughout corporate America".

"Think about the scale of the two economies", Mr Pompeo told the BBC, referring to Russian Federation and China.

The spy chief's comments came in the wake of the arrest this year of a former Central Intelligence Agency officer charged with retaining classified information.

In an interview with the BBC, the head of the Central Intelligence Agency was asked about concerns that the Kremlin might try again to influence the outcome of upcoming US polls.

Pompeo also told the that, despite some cooperation on anti-terrorism efforts, he views Russian Federation as an adversary, stressing that they are still trying to influence the U.S. and Europe.
