Audiobooks officially launched in Google Play Store

Audiobooks officially launched in Google Play Store

Greg Hartrell, head of product management for Google Play Books, listed subscription-less buying as the top selling point for the new audiobooks store. Right now, there's no integration between the Google Home and Amazon's Audible and Google's audiobooks won't play on the Echo.

It's easy to pick up where you left off even if you switch devices, and you can also share your favorite titles with the entire clan through Family Library for no extra charge. That's because Google launched audiobooks, which you can use on iOS, Android, the web, and yes, your Google Home.

Google today announced that audiobooks are now available via the Google Play Store. Amazon-owned Audible, the top provider of audiobooks, has not been supported on Home and other speakers with Google Assistant. Over the weekend, a dedicated section for Audiobooks spotted on Google Play, and now the company has made it official.

MAN: HOMECOMING Writers In Talks to Direct DC's FLASHPOINT
Daley and Goldstein already have experience in the comic book genre after writing the script for Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming . Rick Famuyiwa had been set as director of the Flash stand-alone before exiting in October 2016 due to creative differences .

After an unintentional tease, Google has started to offer audiobooks via the Play Store. Additional commands such as "who is the author" and "stop playing in 20 minutes" are also available (see the complete list of commands here). Google Play Books with Audio Books will also be available on iOS for Apple users as well. It will be coming soon to the Assistant on Android Auto in the U.S.

Hence, Google has gotten into the audiobook business.

To start listening to audiobooks on Google's smart speaker, purchase a title first, of course. Obviously, Google wants you to buy from them so this deal may be worth it if you've had your eye on a particular release for a while. Interestingly, Google's audiobooks don't need you to subscribe to it to use it, initially. It likely will be some time though, before we get the more advanced features of other similar sites like Audible. Audible's cheapest subscription tier is one book a month for $14.95, which shaves as much as $10 off the price of a standalone audiobook.
