YouTube Has a New Music Service, Blah Blah Blah

The new service will offer subscription to the users and it will eliminate a lot of confusions regarding the somewhat confusing series of streaming products that have been rebranded and relaunched in previous years by YouTube.

Spotify - which has paid more than $5 billion in music-licensing fees through September 2016 - faces increased competition from Apple Music in the space.

2018 is going to start with a bang: YouTube looks set to launch a new music streaming service in March next year. Combined, both Google-owned services have almost 7 million subscribers.

Google does many things well, but one thing it struggles with is coming up with a paid streaming music service that can keep up with Spotify and Apple Music.

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said the "transaction will allow both companies to benefit from the global growth of music streaming".

YouTube has apparently already struck a deal with Warner Music Group.

Music streaming company Spotify and the music arm of China's Tencent Holdings Ltd will buy minority stakes in each other's businesses, the companies said in a statement on Friday.

Independent label consortium Merlin is also close to getting on board, according to Bloomberg.

But what about YouTube Red, isn't that good enough? Early next year, YouTube will enter into negotiations with Vevo for a new deal.

The search giant already owns the world's most successful video-sharing website, but its efforts to expand YouTube's reach have largely failed. Major advertisers have also abandoned YouTube after two renowned publications discovered that the video service had monetized videos with pedophiliac comments.
