This year's votes for such top-selling acts as Bon Jovi, The Cars, Dire Straits and The Moody Blues can be viewed as a conservative, middle-of-the-road-friendly course correction for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Conversely, I can't get too agitated about the Moody Blues, a band that was formed in 1964 and that has been eligible for nearly three decades but that was nominated for the first time only this year. Sambora tells Variety, "Oh yeah, I have no problem playing". Sure, Bon Jovi has sold a ton of records. Tickets will go on sale in January and the event will later air on HBO and be heard on SiriusXM Radio. In recent years, the Rock Hall has flung its doors open to prog-rock bands like Yes, who were inducted last year, and Rush, who got in in 2013. When questioned by Rolling Stone about the possibility of a reunion with former members guitarist Richie Sambora and original bassist Alec John Such, drummer Tico Torres stated, "They are a huge part of us". English rockers Dire Straits, which includes brothers Mark and David Knopfler, blended blues into their music. "Most of all, I'd like to thank all of our fans who have supported us over the years, and have steadfastly stood by us".

Also nominated this year but not inducted were Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine, Depeche Mode, Eurythmics, MC5, LL Cool J, Judas Priest, the Zombies, the Meters, Link Wray, Rufus with Chaka Khan, and the J. Geils Band. He also added that he only keeps in touch with the other guys "every once in a while", but teased that "you never know" if he'll reunite with the band.

Amazon and Google are fighting, and that means consumers lose
