Judge Roy Moore avoids spotlight ahead of Alabama Senate vote

Judge Roy Moore avoids spotlight ahead of Alabama Senate vote

"I said I couldn't vote for Roy Moore".

"I have stated both publicly and privately over the last month that unless these allegations were proven to be true I would continue to plan to vote for the Republican nominee, Judge Roy Moore", John Merrill, Alabama secretary of state, said in a text message to The Associated Press.

A number of national Democrats have descended on Alabama in recent days to hit the trail for Moore's opponent, Doug Jones, a former U.S. attorney. There was a little mistake made.

In Alabama, a southern state where Trump won 62% of the vote, voting for a Democrat is unthinkable for many Republicans, even if they believe the allegations against Moore, which he has rejected as "fake news" orchestrated by his enemies.

"We can not afford - this country, the future of this country - can not afford to lose a seat in the very very close United States Senate", Mr Trump said to the approving crowd.

Trump last week issued a full endorsement for the Republican candidate, whom multiple women have accused of sexual misconduct while they were teenagers and Moore was in his 30s.

Earlier in the day, Ms Nelson acknowledged that she added a notation under a high school yearbook inscription she says Mr Moore wrote in 1977.

Alfa Romeo Sauber confirms Leclerc and Ericsson
Sauber finished last in the constructors' championship for the first time in their history in 2017. Sauber will have closer ties with Ferrari next season through the deal with Alfa Romeo.

"We can not afford, the future of this country can not afford to lose the seat", Mr Trump said, referring to his party's razor-thin 52-48 advantage in that chamber of Congress. We can't afford it, folks.

Numerous Republicans have called on Moore to step aside in the race. After Trump made it official on Monday (Tuesday NZT) that he supports Moore, the Republican National Committee turned back on the spigot of cash to help Moore win.

Trump endorsed Moore's candidacy despite the claims against him, and has said a Democratic victory would serve a blow to his agenda.

A RealClearPolitics average of polls shows Moore with a almost 4-point lead over Jones heading into the final days of the campaign.

The White House said the rally was a campaign event for Mr Trump. "We can't have a Pelosi/Schumer Liberal Democrat, Jones, in that important Alabama Senate seat". "His decision not to actually travel to Alabama for Moore, then, would seem to be a pretty rough commentary on Moore's chances", Blake wrote. "It's that he is going to Pensacola", White House spokesman Raj Shah told reporters on board Air Force One as Mr Trump flew to Florida.

But on Friday, less than 32km from the Alabama border, Trump erased any plausible deniability he might have had in this US Senate race.
