Here are your options if YouTube vanishes from Amazon gizmos

Google announced today that it has had it with Amazon and their selective selling and implementation of competing products.

As Amazon is not reciprocating, Google pulled out YouTube from Echo Show and Fire TV.

Amazon said it hoped to resolve the issue, and noted that Echo Show users can still access YouTube video through the internet, just not through the YouTube app. The power being thrown around by these two giants is the type of conduct that has some talking about the need to break them up by way of anti-trust action. An in-app notification informs users that YouTube will disappear from Fire TV devices on January 1. As the world's largest online retailer, Amazon has tremendous sway over what people buy, while the results delivered by Google's ubiquitous search engine often help determine what people do on and off the web.

Both parties have said that they hope the matter will be resolved soon, but neither looks likely to budge.

Amazon and Apple have been in a similar brawl since 2015 stemming from the site kicking out the Apple TV from its listings. One of the first signs that the companies were at odds came when Amazon redesigned Google's Android mobile software for its Kindle tablets.

Jonny Bairstow: ECB investigating 'headbutt' involving Cameron Bancroft before Ashes
Bairstow was reportedly quick to apologise after the incident, and there is no police involvement or official complaints. Reports in Australia suggested Bairstow headbutted batsman Bancroft on a night out in Perth four weeks ago.

"We've been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other's products and services", a Google spokeswoman said.

Google made this decision for a number of reasons: Amazon doesn't sell Google products like the Chromecast or Google Home, it won't make Prime Video available for Google Cast and Google claims Amazon violated a Terms of Service agreement by overlaying Alexa voice controls on its YouTube app. Amazon also doesn't allow its Prime video streaming service on Chromecast, an omission that Google wants to change.

The bickering between Google and Amazon has been going on several years as they have ratcheted up the competition with each other.

"Google is setting a disappointing precedent by selectively blocking customer access to an open website", Amazon told Reuters in a statement. Shortly after, Amazon stopped selling the Nest E Thermostat, Nest's Camera IQ, and the Nest Secure alarm system. However, Google removed the video streaming service again on December 5.
