CES 2018: Samsung Reveals New Notebook 9 Laptops

Samsung is doubling down on its laptop efforts in 2018, announcing its plans to start the year strong with three new laptops, namely a brand new model dubbed the Samsung Notebook 9 Pen.

The Samsung Notebook 9 Pen, a 13.3-inch 2-in-1 notebook, will have an integrated S Pen, similar to the Notebook 9 Pro, which was introduced in May.

The new specs now include the 8th Generation Intel Core i7 processor for all models, supported by up to 16 GB of Dynamic Data Rate Type 4 (DDR4) memory. The body is made out of a magnesium alloy called Metal12, which is both light and durable. The 13.3-inch screen variant comes standard with Intel HD graphics while the 15-inch model comes with optional 2GB NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics processor. The battery also supports fast charging and the Notebook 9 (2018) measures 15.4mm, which makes it one of the thinnest and lightest notebooks in its segment.

Theres a third version – the Samsung Notebook 9 Pen 13.3”. It's an S Pen, so while it's smaller, it doesn't require a battery and it fits inside of a holster in the device.

Samsung added a set of potentially handy software tools, too, such as Studio Plus for photo and video content creation, Samsung Message that lets you send messages from the laptop to contacts saved on your phone and a voice-activated note-taking app.

In case you are interested, the 2018 LG Gram goes on sale next month in the United States, and the updated Notebook 9 line launches in Korea this month, with USA availability set to arrive in Q1 2018.

On the specs front, the Samsung Notebook 9 boasts of a 13.3-inch Samsung RealViewTouch FHD display. They both are powered by Intel Core i7 processors and feature 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage. Samsung is releasing these new Notebooks with the latest Windows update, i.e. Windows 10. There is a USB Type-C port, a USB 3.0 port, an HDMI port, and a fingerprint sensor as well. Lenovo is also expected to announce its Windows on ARM laptop at CES next month, so the competition amongst laptop makers will hopefully get heated this year. Pricing for the Notebook 9 Pen hasn't been revealed either.

The Notebook 9 has 75 Wh Hexacell battery which makes it always-on device. As for ports, the Samsung Notebook 9 Pen comes with one USB Type-C port, one USB 3.0 port, one HDMI ports and a Dollars card slot.
