President Moon Jae-in and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to "normalize exchanges and cooperation in all areas" during their summit on Saturday in Da Nang, Vietnam, signaling a thaw in bilateral relations following the row over the deployment of an American antimissile system.
Moon congratulated Xi on the successful conclusion of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and his re-election as general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, saying he supports Xi's vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind.
The Korean government also assuaged Beijing's security concerns with the so-called "three nos", meaning no additional Thaad deployments, no joining of a broader U.S. missile defense (MD) system and no Korea-U.S. -Japan military alliance.
Xi noted his meeting with the South Korean leader marked a turnaround in South Korea-China relations. "Let us both work hard to recover lost time". Xi stressed that the two nations should respect each other regarding their key interests and critical issues, establish political mutual trust and enhance bilateral communication and cooperation.
