Teens On Amazon: Parents, Here's How-To Approve, Block Purchases

Teens On Amazon: Parents, Here's How-To Approve, Block Purchases

But while your teen or tween kids may appreciate the same convenience, you probably don't want to give them unfettered access to your Amazon account.

The second way has parents giving their teens monthly spending limits so their Amazon shopping doesn't get out of hand.

On the other end of the spectrum, the move could be seen as an effort to indoctrinate teens and get them addicted to Amazon early, before they become loyal to a competitor. Parents must add their teens (aged 13 to 17) to their Household account, a free process, after which point the teens are able to use their own login more or less as if it were their own independent account.

Knecht says the driver of the vehicle then got out and "viciously" stabbed the officer several times with a knife before fleeing. The person is believed to have acted alone, although police are not ruling out involvement by others, Mr Knecht said.

The next step for Amazon would be to make it easier for teens to use this cash, perhaps by configuring a digital allowance parents can dole out to teens' accounts. Amazon notifies parents - either by text message or email - of any purchases. "We've listened to families and have built a great experience for both teens and parents", said Michael Carr, Vice President, Amazon Households, in a statement about the launch.

Afterwards, the teen will log into the Amazon App using their own username and password. The parent will choose a payment method and shipping addresses their teen can use when placing orders. Amazon's default setting with this service is autoapproval of orders, but parents can individually approve them via text if they so prefer. Indeed, parents can elect to receive a text or email that shows the cost of an item and shipping address, while the kid can add a personalized plea to win approval, such as: "I need this new shirt for church".

If you have a Prime membership, you can share those benefits with your teen at no additional cost, Amazon said. That option then takes teens to write a short note to send to their parents about the purchase, where they can say "I need these sneakers", or "I ran out of granola bars".
