NOAA's winter forecast is in, and it looks frozen for us

Today the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released the winter outlook for the entire United States.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Negaunee Township say that could lead to a warmer start to winter and then more cold and snow at the end of the season. It's expecting a cooler than average winter in parts of the Pacific northwest.

While that weather phenomenon is unlikely to have a major effect on New England, Halpert still advised people across the country to get ready for the coming season.

Last winter was one of the warmest on record, and there were still a number of significant snowstorms.

The rest of the country falls into the equal chance category, which means an equal chance for above-, near-, or below-normal temperatures and precipitation because there is not a strong enough climate signal in these areas to shift the odds. The southern U.S.is expected to be drier and warmer than usual this winter, NOAA said.

Kelly attended, but that he and his wife were listed as being seated at a table with the first lady at that event. I am not speaking for other people. "I was told that he didn't often, and a lot of presidents don't.

Wetter-than-average conditions are favored across most of the northern United States, extending from the northern Rockies, to the eastern Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley, in Hawaii and in western and northern Alaska. However, much of the southern US would be drier than normal.

In general, the winter forecast is expected to be dominated by La Nina, a cooling of the Pacific equatorial waters.

NOAA didn't place a bet on the odds of a wetter or drier winter in New England, saying the region had an equal chance of above-average, average, or below-average precipitation. Jones said northern areas of the state might just be immune from La Niña, spelling good news for ski areas and skiers themselves.

The agency's winter outlook will be updated on November 16.
