Ford recalls more than 1 million vehicles over door latch issue

Ford recalls more than 1 million vehicles over door latch issue

The recall is associated with faulty door latches that could cause water to infiltrate the door, eventually leading to the failure of the latch.

Ford previously recalled almost 4 million vehicles for door latch issues in six separate recalls since 2014, including 2.4 million vehicles recalled in August 2016.

The safety recall for 2015-17 F-150 and 2017 Super Duty models is due to a frozen door latch or a bent or kinked actuation cable, according to the company, which could result in a door not opening or closing. While the company said that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue, it increases the risk for injury. In total, 1,344,605 units are impacted.

The automaker said it will notify customers by letter the week of November 13 to let them know if their trucks are part of the recall.

Weigandt said Ford's decision to issue a recall is driven by data.

Through the first nine months of 2017 the Ford F-Series was the top-selling vehicle in the USA with sales of more than 658,636 trucks, a 10.6 percent jump compared with the same period a year ago, according to industry research firm Autodata Corp.

Despite the hit, Ford said that it still expected to earn between $1.65 and $1.85 per share for the full year.

Ford has previously disclosed plans to spend $935 million on other recalls announced since August 2016.

Ford Motor Co. has recalled 1.3 million pickup trucks because of an issue that could allow a door to open while driving in certain conditions - the same problem the automaker had with some cars. It shares were flat at $12.20.
