Trump unhappy with top health official over travel

Trump unhappy with top health official over travel

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he's "not happy" with Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, whose use of private jets for official travel has drawn scrutiny.

The Health and Human Services inspector general is investigating Price's use of chartered aircraft, with the department adamant that he never violated federal travel regulations that state officials are only allowed to charter planes if "no scheduled commercial airline service is reasonably available...to fulfill your agency's travel requirement".

When asked if he would fire the Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary over the matter, the Republican president said: "We'll see".

The House Oversight and Government Reform committee is launching a wide-ranging examination of air travel by high-ranking Trump officials following reports about Price's trips.

During her tenure, Sebelius said, officials were required to travel commercially in economy class but were permitted to book business-class tickets if a flight lasted more than 12 consecutive hours. The committee wants details by October 10. They included visits to a resort where he owns land and a lunch with his son.

"I will tell you, personally, I'm not happy about it", Trump told reporters. He actually gets very unfair press in that regard.

The EIA also said total domestic crude oil output rose by 157,000 barrels a day to 9.510 million barrels a day. WTI's front-month contract was up $0.15, or 0.3%, at $50.06 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The letter reminded Price and other recipients that official travel for all federal employees must be "by the most expeditious means of transportation practicable", and be in line with an employee's function. I am not happy with it.

"I have no idea who came up with this notion and where it came from, and the notion you could spend $400,000 in what, five months, is stunning", Sebelius said.

"I'm not going to comment on that because the President hasn't commented publicly", Kellyanne Conway, a senior White House adviser, told reporters.

I do know that he deserves to be.

Price, an ally of House Speaker Paul Ryan, is a past chairman of the House Budget Committee, where he was known as a frequent critic of wasteful spending.

Investigators will seek records of Price's travel and review the justifications that he and his staff gave for the trips, the spokeswoman for HHS Inspector General Daniel R. Levinson said.
