North Korea nuclear test provocative - Putin

North Korea nuclear test provocative - Putin

Earlier in the day, Seoul announced the deployment of four additional US THAAD missile systems in North Gyeongsang Province following the recent nuclear test by Pyongyang.

The US Forces Korea will reportedly position the launchers at a new base in Seongju, some 300 kilometres south of Seoul, on Thursday.

Trump's statement came after North Korea on Sunday detonated what it described as a hydrogen bomb designed for a long-range missile, sparking global alarm with what was by far its most powerful test to date.

Russian Federation may be forced to take military measures to counterbalance the deployment of the US THAAD missile defense systems to South Korea and Japan, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Monday.

Although the ministry did not provide an exact time for the installation, a residents' group cited by Yonhap said it had confirmed the plan "through various channels", adding that it was due to take place at 2am local time on Thursday.

The ministry did not specify when the launchers would be moved onto the site.

Two truck-mounted launchers and a powerful X-band radar are now in operation at the base.

Defense Secretary Mattis Contradicts Trump After President Threatens North Korea
It continued, "Mattis did not reverse Trump or defy him on the broader ban against new recruits who are transgender people". Now, with Mattis' directive in hand, the Pentagon has six months to prepare before the ban is implemented.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on Wednesday that the North Korean nuclear crisis can not be resolved by sanctions alone, and urged the worldwide community not to push Pyongyang into a corner.

Russian president Vladimir Putin has condemned North Korea's latest nuclear test as "provocative".

The four remaining launchers have been on standby at an unidentified US base in South Korea, pending the alliance's decision.

"It is clear that it is impossible to solve the problems of the Korean peninsula by sanctions and pressure alone", Putin said at the economic forum in Vladivostok, following talks with South Korean President Moon Jae-In.

Putin, speaking in China on Tuesday, had condemned the nuclear test as provocative, but said that Russian Federation views sanctions on North Korea as "useless and ineffective".

He said it was important that all parties, including North Korea, should not face "threats of annihilation" and "step on the path of cooperation".

The South Korean government is expected to deploy several thousand police to accompany the missiles, in anticipation of resistance and possible confrontation. He said it "offers a genuine way to defuse the tensions and a step-by-step settlement".
