Italian antitrust authority to investigate Ryanair over mass cancellations

Italian antitrust authority to investigate Ryanair over mass cancellations

It is expected that pilots at Dublin and Stansted - Ryanair's two biggest bases - will issue demands to management later today.

Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary admitted for the fist time today that his airline cancelled nearly 2,000 flights because it doesn't have enough pilots, leading angry shareholders to criticise his "gung-ho management attitude".

He again apologised for the disruption, which he said was down to mismanagement of the pilots' rostering system.

O'Leary told Ryanair's Annual General Meeting that it did not have sufficient spare pilots for September, October and November to ensure smooth operations and was considering forcing some pilots to change their annual leave plans.

The bill for the compensation for passengers left stranded and forced to re-book could reach €20million.

He added: "If you have captains on the 737s who are in their early 30s and single, [and asked] to fly long haul with Norwegian out of Dublin for six or 12 months, there is a risk that we may lose some pilots to Norwegian".

It said new contracts "should help stop the large number of colleagues who are leaving for 'greener pastures'".

Real Madrid extend Isco's contract until end of 2022 season
As a result, the Spain worldwide will now remain under contract with Los Blancos until the summer of 2022. He said: "I'm very happy, I'm proud to be able to keep playing at the best team in the world".

"Every day there are vacancies advertised with attractive packages attempting to entice pilots to relocate to Asia, and in some cases even allowing pilots to be based locally at home", says OAG's latest blog.

Ryanair has said it expects to have re-accommodated more than 95% of the 315,000 customers affected by cancellations by end of this week.

O'Leary revealed that about 400,000 booked flights will be canceled.

The offer comes in a memo to pilots from Ryanair's chief operations officer Michael Hickey.

The rules are very clear about what airlines' obligations are, and Ryanair has been around long enough to know what it needs to do.

Irish low-priced airline Ryanair has allocated replacement flights for more than half of the customers whose trips were cancelled late last week, it said Wednesday.

They urge Ryanair to engage with them in order to agree better working conditions, and say they will only be fulfilling the terms of their contract - and will work no overtime - until improved contract terms are in place.
