China: Trump bank ban statement 'not consistent' with facts

China: Trump bank ban statement 'not consistent' with facts

Indeed, there are suggestions aides were warning Trump not to single out Kim during his UN speech, and that the comments on destroying the nation were not in the draft version of the speech.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said in a news conference on Friday: "North Korea's remarks and behaviour are provocative to regional and worldwide security, and they are absolutely unacceptable".

But this is a far cry from North Korea at its worst.

China announced Saturday that it will limit exports of petroleum products to North Korea to comply with United Nations Security Council sanctions on the North's nuclear and missile development programs. It repeatedly called one past South Korean leader "rat faced". Lavrov suggested that a neutral European country could mediate. North Korean state TV later showed a solemn-looking Kim, dressed in a gray Mao-style suit, reading the statement.

"I was able to reaffirm that Japan and the USA are 100% on the same page", Abe told reporters after the meeting, which lasted about an hour.

President Donald Trump added economic action to his fiery military threats against North Korea, authorizing stiffer new sanctions in response to the Koreans' nuclear weapons advances.

Trump even went on to mock Kim as "Rocket Man", on "a suicide mission for himself and for his regime".

'His remarks. have convinced me, rather than frightening or stopping me, that the path I chose is correct and that it is the one I have to follow to the last, ' Kim Jong-un said in a statement.

South Korea's presidential office said in a statement that a handful of its government agencies "still maintain [the quake] was natural and not from an explosion".

South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who met with Trump on Thursday and addressed the U.N. General Assembly, said sanctions were needed to bring Pyongyang to the negotiating table and force it to give up its nuclear weapons, but Seoul was not seeking North Korea's collapse.

He said: "For much too long North Korea has been allowed to abuse the global financial system to facilitate funding for its nuclear weapons and missile programs". It did not name specific weapons systems.

"I will surely and definitely tame the deranged US dotard with fire", Kim said on Thursday, according to reports. Then when asked if diplomacy was still a possible, he said: "Why not?"

Mnuchin stressed that the new USA sanctions were not meant to pressure China, despite the fact that China is the chief trading partner of Kim's regime.

Also Thursday, Trump issued an executive order expanding the Treasury Department's ability to target anyone conducting significant trade in goods, services or technology with North Korea and to ban them from the USA financial system.

KCNA said Chinese media was "openly resorting to interference in the internal affairs of another country" and driving a wedge between the two countries.
