Apple defends the open internet in a letter to the FCC

Apple defends the open internet in a letter to the FCC

In that Restoring Internet Freedom proposal, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai is also proposing to scrap the general conduct standard, which the previous chairman, Tom Wheeler, said was necessary so that the FCC could deal on a case-by-case basis with potential impediments to net neutrality that did not fall within those "bright-line" rules. After President Donald Trump appointed Pai chairman, he's been moving to throw out existing net-neutrality rules.

Late yesterday, a group of over 500 small businesses and trade associations from across the country signed an open letter raising concerns over the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) plan to repeal net neutrality.

As is standard, comments must be filed by midnight Eastern time on the date of the deadline.

Comcast regulatory chief David Cohen urged Congress to step in and end what he described as a "Groundhog Day" being played out by FCC in regard to net neutrality regulation. "Competition for last-mile broadband connections is crucial to protecting anopen internet".

Aaron Greenberg: Xbox One fans can expect more Japanese Games
After opening preorders last Sunday, Microsoft now says the Xbox One X is the "fastest-selling Xbox pre-order ever". The partner retailers of Microsoft will soon drop the console when they run out of stock as well.

The FCC's proposal asks whether the agency should eliminate the rule banning ISPs from creating fast lanes (or slow lanes) that could favour one service over another, which critics say could allow them to pick winners and losers online.

"Apple remains open to alternative sources of legal authority, but only if they provide for strong, enforceable and legally sustainable protections, like those in place today", the tech giant said.

In addition, Walsh claimed that weeding out the supposedly fraudulent comments would reveal "the large majority of commenters" support reversing net neutrality protections-the position held by AT&T and other major internet service providers. Providers of online goods and services need assurance that they will be able to reliably reach their customers without interference from the underlying broadband provider.

That really dives into one of the main problems with Pai's suggestion for how to make the open internet work. "There is simply no reasonable justification for repealing the net neutrality protections now on the books".
