Microsoft and Tobii team up to add Eye Control to Windows 10

Microsoft and Tobii team up to add Eye Control to Windows 10

To use the feature, now in the beta testing stage and available for select users signed up for Microsoft's Windows Insider program, people need to utilize eye tracking hardware by Tobii, a Swedish company.

But, like most high-end features on Windows 10, Eye Control is not supposed to work without compatible hardware. But Microsoft says that it's open to working with additional hardware vendors to extend the hardware options for the users.

Eye Control allows people to use their eyes to control an on-screen mouse and keyboard and to operate Windows 10 text-to-speech functionality.

Windows 10 testers will only see the new colors if they clean install build 16257, and if you upgrade you'll keep the legacy colors to ensure any custom color settings are not replaced. Best described, the feature would be the newest way to interact with a computer, alongside keyboard, mouse, pen, and touch. It is not a surprise given that Microsoft is struggling with its Windows Phone.

Microsoft is no longer accepting new Insiders to join its "skip ahead" ring that gives access to Redstone 4 preview builds a little earlier than usual.

Alongside the development of Windows Creators Update, Windows console was updated to support the full 24-bit RGB colour.

Britain to ban sale of new diesel and gasoline cars by 2040

BMW denies cheating on diesel emissions
The European Commission and its German counterpart were tipped off about the possible cartel, the EU competition authority said. Daimler announced on Tuesday that it would modify three million Mercedes vehicles in Europe to reduce their diesel emissions .

Since the feature was just confirmed a day ago, it is still in the beta phase and for now, it only works with EN-US keyboard layout.

"It can help you to select, type and speak entirely hands-free".

So, a team of employees chose to take on the challenge and during a company hackathon built a tool called Eye Gaze Wheelchair, which allowed Gleason to drive his wheelchair with only the movement of his eyes as he looked at controls on a Surface tablet. This feature will use the default text-to-speech voices, which can be changed in Settings Time & Language Speech Text-to-speech.

The controls of Eye Control start with a launchpad. In a bid to improve the legibility of darker colors on modern display screens, the tech giant is giving the Console's default colors their first overhaul in more than two decades.

Windows Defender has also been updated with performance improvements targeting container launch times.

As always, make sure you check the known issues for PC on the official Windows Blog before you run the update.
