3-year-old found dead left in day care van all day

An employee at a day care center in Florida is expected to face charges over the death of a three-year-old boy whose body was found in a van parked behind the center.

A three-year-old boy has died after being mistakenly left in a nursery centre's van for almost 12 hours in sweltering Florida heat.

Police responded to a report of possible child neglect at Little Miracles Academy around 8:30 p.m. The high temperature in Orlando on Monday was about 93 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Weather Underground.

The worker at Little Miracles Academy in Orlando admitted that she did not perform a head count before leaving the child, Myles Hill, in the backseat Monday morning, Orlando police chief John Mina said at a press conference.

Mike Carroll, secretary of the Florida Department of Children and Families, said it was investigating the death.

We believe Myles was in the hot van all day long, since 9am, said Orlando Police Chief John Mina on Tuesday. He was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

Sen. Lindsey Graham Releases Statement on White House Shakeup

Corey Esters, Myles's grandfather, told the newspaper the daycare centre's owners, Audrey and Bryant Thornton, had not reached out to them, which he said was upsetting because he has known Audrey for many years.

"When he was little, he would say, 'Mommy, that's the sky.' He just knew everything, so I would just call him my baby genius", Banks said. "If confirmed by the autopsy, Myles would be the thirty-second child that has died while being left in a hot vehicle this year and the fifth in the state of Florida", Mina concluded.

Little Miracles Academy has been previously found not following rules created to protect children, according to records from the Florida Department of Children and Families reviewed by local media.

According to an inspection report, "The facility's log for children transported did not include destination time, arrival time, destination location, and departure location". The employee did not drop Hill at his home on Monday afternoon, Hill's family called the day care center and they got to know that Hill was not present in the day care all day.

"He was always doing something", she said.
