Peter Sagan Disqualified from Tour de France After Mark Cavendish Crash

President of the race commission Philippe Marien said: We've chose to disqualify Peter Sagan from the Tour de France 2017 as he endangered some of his colleagues seriously in the final metres of the sprint which happened in Vittel. Cavendish slammed into the barriers and two other riders plowed over the British sprint specialist, a victor of 30 Tour stages.

At the finish line, Sagan did wait to apologize to Cavendish but the Briton had already been taken to hospital for X-rays.

"I get on with Peter well", a dignified Cavendish added of the role Sagan played in his crash.

What likely prompted the race organisers decision was they way in which Sagan apparently pushed with his elbow upon contacting Cavendish.

"I'm ok, I'm in a little bit of pain, I'll go for some more tests now, we'll see", Cavendish told a scrum of reporters outside his Dimension Data team's bus.

"I'm not a fan of him putting his elbow in like that", he said. "I don't know if I snapped it".

Thomas and defending champion Chris Froome, who was held up behind the crash and is 12 seconds behind his compatriot in the overall classification, are fine, Team Sky said.

When he left for hospital, he was also wearing a sling. It was not relaxing, so I am happy to get through it with Froomey.

The Manxman fell heavily after taking a nudge from world champion Peter Sagan in the final 100 metres in Vittel.

Major global companies hit by cyber attacks
The company posted on Twitter , "We can confirm that Maersk IT systems are down across multiple sites and business units". Russia's Rosneft energy company also reported falling victim to hacking , as did shipping company A.P.

Race leader Geraint Thomas was also taken down in a separate crash in the final kilometre of the 207.5km stage from Mondorf-les-Bains to Vittel.

"The crash happened right in front of me, I had nowhere to go really", said Thomas.

The last time the Tour de France ended in Vittel, back in 2009, Nicki Sorensen took the plaudits having been involved in a six-man breakaway, but a repeat solo effort never looked like threatening the sprinters.

When asked if he accepted the blame, Sagan said, "It's the sprint, I just didn't know that Mark was behind me".

Australia's Michael Matthews was in the bunch finish as well and finished the stage in seventh place.

The world time trial champion, who had hoped to win the Stage 1 time trial in Düsseldorf and sport the yellow jersey, instead started Stage 4 sitting almost 13 minutes down on the general classification.

Norway's Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) came home third as FDJ rider Demare, who has been in impressive form lately, had time to raise his arms in celebration before crossing the line.

The Planche des Belles Filles climb isn't long but it's a brute, rising over 1,000 meters in 5.9km and with a stretch of 20 percent grade right at the top.
