Nets, Lakers among top teams who could sign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Nets, Lakers among top teams who could sign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

The Detroit Pistons are renouncing their rights to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, which means he will now become an unrestricted free agent. Newcomer Avery Bradley is set to make roughly $8.8M this upcoming season before becoming a free agent himself, so the Pistons have a year to figure out if they see Bradley part of their long-term plans.

Philadelphia would likely no longer be in the picture after signing JJ Redick to a massive deal.

Detroit - saddled in luxury tax with more than $66 million committed to Andre Drummond, Reggie Jackson, Tobias Harris and Jon Leuer for next season alone - was expected to match any competing offers on Pope.

Tesla Sales Falling Flat Clouds Outlook for Musk's Bold Targets

Andy Murray Has A Hip Issue Ahead Of His Wimbledon Title Defense
The Briton is still expected to begin the defence of his Wimbledon title on Monday, but will be short of practice heading into the Championships.

Detroit has already made a slew of moves on a smaller scale since the free agency period began last week. Here's a team that had hard-capped itself, even with Caldwell-Pope still on the restricted free agent market.

Caldwell-Pope is coming off averaging 13.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 three-pointers per game in his fourth National Basketball Association season and could see an expanded offensive role in 2017-18, depending on who he ends up signing with.

But if Caldwell-Pope remains patient, Wojnarowski reported the Brooklyn Nets will be a "strong contender" to land him-assuming the Washington Wizards match Brooklyn's four-year, $106 million offer sheet for Otto Porter Jr. Otherwise, one of the teams mentioned above could try and swoop in if he's impatient. But they signed guard Langston Galloway to a three-year, $21 million contract and acquired Bradley, one of the top two-way guards in the National Basketball Association, from the Boston Celtics for forward Marcus Morris.
