Marine Le Pen Allegedly Paid Parliamentary Assistants With EU Funds

Marine Le Pen Allegedly Paid Parliamentary Assistants With EU Funds

Funding the EU Parliament has allocated for assistants to National Front deputies is believed to have gone to fake jobs, and to have been used for party activities inside France instead.

Former French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen has been placed under formal investigation over alleged misuse of European parliamentary funds.

She had invoked parliamentary immunity as a member of the European Parliament during her presidential and parliamentary campaigns but had pledged to cooperate with the investigation once the campaigns were over.

Le Pen also faces an investigation into the financing of past election campaigns and a probe into her tweeting of pictures of Islamic State violence.

Le Pen, who is being investigated for breach of trust, has previously denied any wrongdoing in a case that she has said is politically motivated. Three of his ministers bowed out of their jobs shortly after being appointed - the justice, defense and European affairs ministers - over concerns they could be caught in the investigations into the political use of salaries to parliamentary aides.

One of the aides in question, Catherine Griset, a senior aide at Le Pen's National Front party, was charged in February in the case.

Starboy music boss, Wizkid has been announced the victor of the "Best International Act: Africa" category at the BET Awards 2017. Among her rivals in that race is her sister Solange who is nominated for "Cranes in the Sky".

Le Pen denies the charges.

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen was charged on Friday over claims her party illegally claimed millions of euros from the European Parliament to pay for France-based staff, The Local - France reported.

"There is nothing illegal", Florian Philippot, the party's vice president, said.

Le Pen refused to be interrogated and simply made a statement during a face-off with investigative judges, her lawyer, Rodolphe Bosselut, said in a Twitter post.

Other European parliamentarians, including Le Pen's father Jean-Marie Le Pen and her companion Louis Aliot, have also been investigated for allegedly misusing parliamentary aides' wages.
