India slams Pak for 'glorifying' Burhan

India slams Pak for 'glorifying' Burhan

The Jammu and Kashmir government has heightened security across the state ahead of former Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani's first death anniversary on July 8.

Sharif in a message on the first death anniversary of Wani's killing said that India can not suppress the voice of the people of Kashmir through use of brute force.

Internet services on both mobile phones and fixed landline broadband connection also remain suspended for the second day on Saturday.

One of the 12 dreaded Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists of the Burhan Wani group, Altaf Ahmad Dar alias Kachroo who joined the group in 2006 and is the district commander of Kulgam, is believed to be behind the recruitment drive.

While talking to media, Vaid said that the police were seizing motorcycles and scooters as a precautionary measure to prevent youth from taking to streets or rallies on Burhan Wani's death anniversary.

The 22-year-old was gunned down in his hometown Tral in southern Kashmir, along with two other militants, in what has been described by officials as the "biggest success against militants" in recent years.

To avoid a repeat of the violence that rocked Kashmir after Wani was killed in a gunfight with security forces on July 8, 2016, security has been stepped across Jammu and Kashmir.
