Egypt army kills 40 militants after check point attack

Egypt army kills 40 militants after check point attack

At least 23 Egyptian soldiers were killed and at least 26 more were injured by two deadly vehicle bombs that ripped through army checkpoints in northern Sinai today, security sources said.

The troop presence at the compound is estimated to have numbered about 60 soldiers.

This as the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group has been suffering major setbacks inflicted by government and pro-government forces in Iraq and Syria, where the militant group first took territory and gained notoriety.

North of Cairo, two gunmen shot dead an officer with the police´s National Security service on Friday as he left his home, the interior ministry said in a statement.

The army is now combing the area and searching for the attackers. He didn't prove a breakdown.

The military carried out a counter-attack nearly immediately after, deploying fighter jets to kill over 40 militants suspected of involvement and destroying six of their vehicles, according to a video released by the military showing aerial footage of air strikes. Witnesses said they saw Apache helicopters carrying out airstrikes across Rafah after the attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Indian woman attacked with acid 5th time
The attack took place despite a round-the-clock police protection and the presence of an armed guard inside the hostel. Yesterday between 8-9pm acid was thrown at her while she stepped out of her hostel to fill water from a hand-pump.

The attacks were mainly centered in Sinai Peninsula, but some extended to the capital and Delta cities.

Over the past months, IS has focused its attacks on Egypt's Christian minority and carried out at least four deadly attacks that killed dozens, prompting army chief-turned-President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi to declare a state of emergency in the country.

Hundreds of soldiers and police have been killed during the attacks.

Egypt has accused Hamas of fomenting unrest in the region and aiding the insurgency in the northern Sinai Peninsula, especially in the aftermath of the 2013 ouster of Islamic President Mohammed Morsi, who hails from the Muslim Brotherhood organization.

In January, eight policemen were killed in the city of el-Arish in a auto bomb explosion.
