Alfred Angelo customers facing problems should file complaints with AG's office

Alfred Angelo customers facing problems should file complaints with AG's office

"I tried to call the store and no one would answer, so that is why I just thought I'd come down here and see", said Tedra Buckler as she also looked, to no avail, for her dress.

Riverside bride-to-be Darleen Mejia, 27, was waiting nervously outside the closed Alfred Angelo store at Tyler Street and Magnolia Avenue Friday morning.

Planning a wedding is already pretty stressful, and an unknown number of brides across the country have an extra and unanticipated source of stress: Alfred Angelo, a retailer and maker of bridal and bridesmaids' gowns, abruptly closed its doors and stopped answering the phone yesterday.

In Lincoln, some brides apparently started showing up at the store Thursday night after hearing the news.

"It may not seem like a big deal to people but when I say I'm on a tight budget, I'm on a very tight budget", she said.

Workers called customers on Thursday, informing them the stores were closing at 8 p.m., and their dress needed to be picked up before then. One of them said it. "My dress isn't in the store and so I call and she's like, 'I can't tell you anything...but I still have three other bridesmaids without dresses".

"[I read on the Facebook group] that some stores around the country were getting calls from Alfred Angelo employees for job hiring and that's where things began unraveling. I can figure it out, but I'm still upset because I paid for something and I don't know if I'll get a refund", McCallum said. "This is ridiculous! We as brides, we need to know this stuff", Stoltz said.

Neither the attorney nor the corporate offices could be reached for comment.

"They filed bankruptcy today, that's what they said".

The store employees were not willing to speak with us.
