Uber Board Said To Be Considering Leave Of Absence For Kalanick

Uber Board Said To Be Considering Leave Of Absence For Kalanick

Following reports that Uber executives turned a blind eye to sexual harassment and other corporate misbehavior, the company's board on Sunday moved to shake up the leadership of the ride-hailing service, before the release this week of an investigation into its troubled culture.

The board met on Sunday to talk about changes regarding the company's management structure.

An Uber spokesman had no comment.

By taking on entrenched taxi companies and regulators around the world, Uber has developed a win-at-any-cost reputation that opponents say has contributed to a toxic workplace.

San Francisco-based Uber is valued at almost $US70 billion ($93 billion) but has yet to turn a profit. The investigation had unfettered access to 600,000 of Uber's internal documents, according to the law firm. Separately, Uber also fired an executive last week after the company official, Eric Alexander, acquired the medical records of a customer who had allegedly been raped during a trip on Uber. Still, if he were to take a leave, it could be perceived as a repudiation of the aggressiveness that he has brought to Uber.

Cell phone video captures shooting inside Texas vehicle dealership
Miraculously, no one else was injured despite the showroom being mostly full with shoppers seeking end-of-month deals. Bernal and Garcia were awaiting the arrival of Ramon Michael Hutchison, also known as Raymond Hutchison, 49, of St.

The SVP of engineering, Amit Singhal, left Uber after it emerged he had not disclosed he had left Google a year earlier amid allegations of sexual harassment.

Michael, whom many regard as Kalanick's closest confidant, was also at the center of an Uber scandal in 2014 when he told a Buzzfeed editor at a party that the company should spend millions of dollars to investigate journalists who were critical of the company.

He's been heralded by many for his business acumen, and many of Uber's 13,000 employees fondly call him by his nickname "TK". For example, in the United States, it's been reported that only two per cent of their revenue is taxable.

Meanwhile, it was understood the recommendations in the Holder report would result in greater controls on spending, human resources and other areas where executives led by CEO Travis Kalanick had a surprising amount of autonomy for a company with more than 12,000 employees. Mr Michael has been embroiled in some of the company's biggest controversies. The board reportedly considered this option during their meeting on Sunday, alongside the recommendations in Holder's report. Another possibility is that Kalanick may return in a reduced role, one with diminished authority, said this person. She claimed that she had written to HR but had received no response.

Kalanick himself proposed a leave of absence last month, after the death of his mother and hospitalisation of his father following a boating accident.
