'Transformers: The Last Knight' Opens to Franchise Low $69.1 Million

The movie has performed much better in global markets, earning $196.2 million, for a worldwide total of $265.2 million, from a $217 million budget. Taking that separation into consideration, it's probable that, if Sam were to make his presence felt in the future, it will be through quick but meaningful enough references similar to the one found in The Last Knight.

Spoiler Warning: This article contains mild spoilers for Transformers: The Last Knight.

This is the biggest problem with the franchise: Bay refuses to give any real personality to any of the Transformers - except when he makes them an egregious stereotype.

"The Last Knight" comes at a time when Paramount could have used an all-around hit, following recent misses "Baywatch" and "Ghost in the Shell".

This comes after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson stated that the new sanctions would hamper diplomacy with Russian Federation . It also places additional sanctions on specific industries, including the country's mining, shipping and railway industry.

It feels like Michael Bay no longer cares if the movies in this franchise are any good. The franchise has historically been massively profitable and seen solid multiples for the studio. Some of the films are in wide release (600 screens or more in the United States and Canada) and some are in limited release (a motion picture that is playing in a select few theaters across the country [typically in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco]). "Transformers: The Last Knight" was directed by Michael Bay and stars Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, and Josh Duhamel. The Last Knight ended up amassing a Friday to Sunday gross of just $45.3 million, a slight improvement over its mid-week performance but still a bad showing for the film. But - surprise - the fifth "Transformers" movie, "The Last Knight", is far from the worst in this continuing experiment in noisy nonsense based on Hasbro toys. "This is Focus' third collaboration with Sofia, and she's created an entertaining, atmospheric thriller featuring strong female representation in front of and behind the camera". The computer-animated comedy film reported an early worldwide total of 141.3 million to date.

At number two, and continuing its domestic rise to the top, is Wonder Woman with $26.1 million, only falling 39% from last weekend. Made for $149 million, Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, Connie Nielsen and Lucy Davis.

Based on its launch, the film is now on track to gross $65 million over five days. Take a look at the box office estimates for the weekend of June 23, and check back on Tuesday for next week's predictions.

When the sprawling universe that is Transformers began, it started as a (somewhat) simple story told through the eyes of #ShiaLaBeouf's Sam Witwicky, an adventurous young man who became embroiled in the world of the Transformers, and became a pivotal part of the franchise. If you thought giant robot dinosaurs was a little much, you haven't seen secret Nazi-killing World War II Autobots, or the spit-take inducing revelation that Transformers might have had a hand helping Harriet Tubman with the Underground Railroad.
