Murray says need to learn from US Open defeat to Nishikori

Murray says need to learn from US Open defeat to Nishikori

Meanwhile, Simona Halep staged a remarkable fightback and saved a match point to reach the semi-final with a 3-6 7-6 (6) 6-0 win over Elina Svitolina yesterday.

Andy Murray shrugged of a sluggish start, staging a comeback Wednesday for a 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-0), 6-1 defeat of Kei Nishikori and a place in his fourth straight French Open semifinal. Murray was badly in need of inspiration and he was handed it via umpire Carlos Ramos who gave the 2016 runner-up a time violation while serving at 1-1 in the second set.

- Second seed Karolina Pliskova came back from a set down to claim a 2-6 6-3 6-4 win over Paraguayan Veronica Cepede Royg.

Murray is likely to have his work cut out to repeat last year's success against Wawrinka after the 2015 champion demolished Marin Cilic, who has been in fine form himself this fortnight, 6-3 6-3 6-1 in just an hour and 40 minutes. "We don't know what's going to happen on Friday, don't know how either of us are going to play, but with the right attitude, right game plan, right tactics, you can still win matches".

There's Murray and Wawrinka on the top half of the bracket. Halep clinched the second set with a forehand victor and swept through the decider as Svitolina's spirit sagged, sealing victory with an ace.

"I'm pleased with how I turned the match around", Murray said.

"The fourth, I think it was ideal tennis I played".

Oil hits six-week low as OPEC fails to curb oversupply
Crude futures fell sharply Wednesday on higher stockpiles in the USA and other rich nations despite the OPEC production deal. Libya and Nigeria are exempt from the OPEC-led production deal to ensure oil revenue flows to national security efforts.

"I couldn't do anything in the first set but I tried to play deeper and more aggressive, and little by little I got better today".

"I think he's probably a bit less confident".

"It's not always been easy for me here but the last few years have been great", Murray said courtside. "I think physically and mentally I feel ready", he said.

Murray dropped serve at the start of the fourth set but otherwise outplayed the eighth seed, reeling off six games in a row on route to victory.

While he clobbered Cilic 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 by crushing both his forehand and backhand, Murray had a tougher time with Nishikori.

"I was missing a little more in the end than earlier in the match. It was windy, so the timing was hard, but once I was able to get into a rhythm and keep him away from the baseline, that made the difference", said Murray. Kei missed a second-serve return, and then I think a good serve on the next point. Nishikori, the Japan number one, did break back but the three-time major champion prevailed 7-0 in the tiebreak.
