Met Office issues yellow warning of rain for tomorrow

The Met Office has issued severe rain warnings for tomorrow after Monday became the hottest day of the year and saw the death of two people in the UK.

A teenage boy drowned in a reservoir at Greenbooth Reservoir, a moorland beauty spot outside Rochdale, Greater Manchester, after reportedly getting into difficulties while swimming in the hot weather.

The mercury hit 32.5c at Hampton Water Works on Monday and peak temperatures are expected to be as high as 33c this week.

The Met Office said: "The hot and sunny weather will continue over the next few days". This change in airmass will trigger some heavy downpours and thunderstorms.

The mercury will keep rising all this week and not cool down until the weekend.

And as more hot air pushes north from France and Spain, an amber level 3 Government heat health warning - one tier below a level 4 national emergency - has been issued.

Today will remain dry with further long spells of sunshine, and a maximum temperature of 31c - dropping to a minimum of 15c overnight.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning to the United Kingdom which is just one level behind them announcing a national emergency.

"However, many places will likely see little or no impacts".

According to the forecast, the North East can expect to see heavy and thundery rain from the early hours of tomorrow, followed by more extensive thunderstorms in the afternoon and into the evening.
