Major global companies hit by cyber attacks

Major global companies hit by cyber attacks

Russia's Rosneft energy company also reported falling victim to hacking, as did shipping company A.P. Moller-Maersk, which said every branch of its business was affected. He says that if one computer gets infected, the new malware has a backup mechanism to spread to patched computers within the network as well.

British firm WPP - which is the biggest advertising group on the planet - says its computer networks in several locations are affected.

The government today said it has initiated proactive measures and is keeping a close vigil on the ransomware attack that has hit Europe, maintaining that there is no large-scale impact on India yet.

The account said: "The cyber attack could lead to serious consequences, however, due to the fact that the Company has switched to a reserve control system neither oil production nor preparation processes were stopped".

Hospitals, government offices and major multinationals were among the casualties of the ransomware payload, which locks up computer files with all-but-unbreakable encryption and then demands a ransom for its release.

"We have been informed that the operations at GTI have come to a standstill because their systems are down (due to the malware attack). They are trying to work manually", a senior JNPT official told PTI last night.

Fearing some clogging up of cargo, additional parking space is being made available, the official said, promising to help in any possible manner. In a tweet, the Barcelona port said the APM terminal "has been affected by the Petya cyberattack and is working to resolve" the problem.

John Oliver's lump of coal for miners: Trump lies about jobs
And because of that, Oliver believes Trump needs to be more truthful to the mining community. But most people don't have the imagination-or whatever-to leave their mine.

The Port of NY and New Jersey said its APM Terminals would be closed for the remainder of the day on Tuesday.

- Rosneft (@RosneftEN) June 27, 2017The Company has contacted the law enforcement authorities regarding the fact of the cyber attack.

The company posted on Twitter, "We can confirm that Maersk IT systems are down across multiple sites and business units". It is assessing the aggregate impact on its businesses and implementing business continuity plans. "The safety of our employees, our operations and customers' business is our top priority".

"We are getting closer, clearly, to a state of war - a state of war that could be more complicated, probably, than those we've known until now".

The attack, which security experts dubbed Petya and appeared to stem in part from an obscure Ukrainian tax software product, exposed fresh weakness in the computer systems that run modern-day societies as the virus rapidly spread unimpeded across Ukraine, Russia, Europe and the U.S.

Copenhagen-based spokesman for A.P. Moller-Maersk Anders Rosendahl said, "We are talking about a cyberattack".
