Israelis Elated, Palestinians Disappointed by Trump Visit

Washington:Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the U.S. has increased its military aid to Tel Aviv by tens of millions of dollars.

Speaking ahead of visiting US President Donald Trump's address at the Israel Museum, Netanyahu said: "Standing next to you, President Abbas condemned the horrific attack in Manchester".

On Wednesday, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told reporters on Air Force One that President Trump "pressured" and was "very forceful" with both sides in the conflict, urging them to go back to the negotiating table.

But much of the intrigue over Trump's public statements during the trip revolved around what he didn't say.

"This groundbreaking new center represents a clear declaration that Muslim-majority countries must take the lead in combatting radicalization, and I want to express our gratitude to King Salman for this strong demonstration of leadership", Trump said.

He became the first sitting U.S. president to visit the site in the Israeli-annexed east of the city. "You can't just walk in on Day One and sign a deal that no one has gotten done in 35 years", the senior official said, explaining that Trump's goal was to "do a lot of listening" and to " try to create a lot of momentum and optimism around the prospect for peace".

"President Trump knows well that Israel is not only the most serious democracy in the Middle East, it's the only democracy", he added.

"The conflict is not between religions", Abbas said. "And we are keen to keep the door open to dialogue with our Israeli neighbours", Abbas told his American counterpart, stressing, however, that the real problem was in occupation and settlements.

Ford's new CEO promises a fit - but fun - company
Ford earned more than $25 billion in profits in the past four years, helped largely by the surging US auto and truck market. Ford said a year ago it plans to spend about $5.5 billion on research and development on electric and self-driving cars .

The two-state solution has always been the cornerstone of USA policy in the region, and is widely regarded as the only settlement that both sides could realistically accept.

Netanyahu continued to thank Trump for the "powerful expression of your friendship to Israel".

In another nepotistic move, Mr. Trump appointed his bankruptcy lawyer, David Friedman, also a political neophyte, as his ambassador to Israel.

President Donald Trump placed a note in the Western Wall in Jerusalem on Monday, becoming the first sitting US president to visit one of Judaism's holiest sites.

Donald Trump's trip to Israel passed by in a flash - after all, the president only stopped in the Jewish state for two days.

Departing from Israel for the European leg of his overseas trip, Trump has left Israelis and Palestinians with no tangible framework for negotiations, and no guiding principles to frame the negotiations.

While Israel regards all of Jerusalem as its "eternal and indivisible" capital, the Palestinians want the east of the city, which Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war, as the capital of their future state. Barack Obama visited in 2008, but it was during the campaign, before he became president.

On Monday evening, President Trump changed his Twitter banner to a picture from the historic visit, a subtle nod to his awareness of the gravity of his visit. It considers all of Jerusalem its indivisible capital, a status that is not recognized internationally.
