Angry Trump decries being target of Russian Federation probe

Donald Trump derided claims of collusion between Moscow and his associates as "phony" on Thursday after reports that the head of a probe into Russia's alleged election meddling is investigating him for obstructing justice. He has already been subpoenaed by the House intelligence committee. Comey also testified Trump had directed him to drop a related FBI investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. Last month, Rosenstein sent a memo to Trump raising concerns over FBI Director James Comey - concerns the White House then cited as a central reason for Comey's firing.

A source familiar with the Mueller investigation confirmed the Post report, saying an examination of possible obstruction of justice charges was "unavoidable" given Comey's testimony, although the issue may not become the main focus of the probe.

The order from the general counsel for the transition team casts a wide net on documents that could shed light on ties between Trump's presidential campaign and representatives of Russia's government.

The Washington Post, citing unidentified officials, reported on Wednesday that special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating the Republican president for possible obstruction of justice.

CBS News has learned that Daniel Coats, the Director of National Intelligence, has agreed to be interviewed by the Special Counsel's office about conversations he may have had with the president about the Russian Federation investigation.

"The message the president is sending through his tweets is that he believes the rule of law doesn't apply to him and that anyone who thinks otherwise will be fired", Feinstein said.

The widened Russian Federation probe could have far-reaching repercussions for Trump's presidency, transforming his closest aides into witnesses and sucking yet more political oxygen out of the West Wing. The Post spoke with five people briefed on the inquiries, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the probe publicly.

In a sign of the newfound seriousness of Mueller's investigation, Vice President Mike Pence's office confirmed that he has hired an attorney to deal with the special counsel investigation.

The president tweeted Friday, "Despite the phony Witch Hunt going on in America, the economic & jobs numbers are great".

"Mr. Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about Russia-related matters".

On Wednesday, Trump's lawyer Marc Kasowitz suggested - without providing evidence - that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had leaked details of the criminal probe.

Russian President Vladimir Putin says former FBI Director James Comey's acknowledgement that he had given memos of his conversations with President Donald Trump to a friend who leaked them to the media is "weird".

The president tweeted Friday, "The Fake News Media hates when I use what has turned out to be my very powerful Social Media - over 100 million people!"

Not only is the president allegedly under new investigation, but based on reports, he may have brought this on himself.

"After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my "collusion with the Russians", nobody has been able to show any proof".
