Si Woo Kim to leave golf for military service

Si Woo Kim to leave golf for military service

Poulter, who later became embroiled in a spat with pundit Brandel Chamblee over the perceived conservatism of his final round, had to escape from trees on the final hole and lost out on any chance of catching Kim.

But, while McNealy was preparing to lead Stanford in a National Collegiate Athletics Association regional tournament that started yesterday, Kim turned back the deepest field in professional golf to win the Players Championship on Sunday.

Scott won The Players in 2004, though by then he already had five victories worldwide, including the Deutsche Bank Championship (before it was a FedEx Cup playoff event). The victory catapulted Kim from 114th to 13th on the tour's money list with about $2.35 million.

After qualifying for the PGA Tour at just 17, he won his first tournament previous year in North Carolina at the Windham Championship.

"He taught me about the course and his experience of being in the leading position".

The 41-year-old Englishman, who finished runner-up at the Players Championship last week, will take part in the flagship event at Wentworth, starting on May 25.

He is the second South Korean to win the Players Championship, joining K.J. Choi, who was 40 when he won in 2011.

"I'm very proud that I could join this tournament as the representative of Korea and Asia, and I'm very excited for that tournament".

But Si Woo Kim's golf game in the final round of The Players Championship on Sunday was a performance beyond his years and one for the ages.

Liverpool: Reds will learn - Wijnaldum
Arsene Wenger, a target of abuse for much of the season, was even greeted with rapturous applause as he walked toward the fans. Third-to-last Hull will join Sunderland and Middlesbrough in being relegated if it loses at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

AAP's former Punjab chief Gurpreet Ghuggi quits party
Waraich said that his opposition to the appointment Mann was not about him individually but about the manner in which it was done. Comedian-turned-politician Waraich told the media here that he has resigned from the primary membership of the AAP .

"I saw it kick off the bank of the bunker and I was a bit anxious at the beginning because I kind of felt that it shot a little too fast", Cabrera Bello said.

Last year's victor Jason Day hands the trophy off to Si Woo Kim after winning The Players Championship golf tournament at TPC Sawgrass - Stadium Course. However, he bogeyed the last after shanking his second into a bush and finished tied for second with South African Louis Oosthuizen on seven-under. That he missed
10 greens yet managed to get up and down on every occasion, either to save par or make a birdie, was quite extraordinary and never once in any of those instances did he look close to being flustered.

Once Kim dropped his three birdies putts, he was unrelenting, especially when he made par saves on six of the back-nine holes.

Then Kim parred his way through the back nine, his last putts no longer than four feet on any hole as he calmly ignored winds and tension to prevail.

The only drama at the end came from Ian Poulter, who was happy just to be here.

Poulter is something of a lightning rod of controversy himself, but nevertheless, he found himself in the heat of contention during the final round of the Players Championship. "They understand what a golf ball does better than we ever did".

South Korea requires all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 35 to complete at least 21 months in the military.

"I was a little pressured that I qualified at Q-school when I was 17 years old", Kim said through a translator. "Regardless of me winning this tournament, I really have to go to the military service".

Compatriot Sang Moon Bae - also a two-time victor on the PGA Tour - is now serving two years of mandatory military service.
