Rugby league-NZ's Bromwich, Proctor dumped from World Cup selection

Kiwis pair Jesse Bromwich and Kevin Proctor have been ruled out of the season-ending 2017 Rugby League World Cup, with the New Zealand Rugby League announcing both players won't be considered for selection following an off-field incident in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Hopefully, the thought of Bromwich and Proctor watching the World Cup from the sidelines means players think twice before their next big night out.

"I put trust in these men in these one-off Tests and clearly they've broken that trust".

The Melbourne Storm's Bromwich said in a statement on Sunday he had stood down from the Kiwis' captaincy because of the incident, while the club said he had been suspended for two games and ordered to undergo counselling and treatment courses.

Kiwis forwards Jesse Bromwich and Kevin Proctor have been axed from the Kiwis for the Rugby League World Cup after being caught up in rugby league's latest drugs scandal.

The NRL Integrity Unit has been notified through the New Zealand Rugby League officials.

The cocaine accused duo won't be in the squad for the World Cup.

Children's pastor Jerome Jones of Church on the Rock will pray for families and Caleb Hoopengardner will pray for businesses. It's only right that we look to God. "It varies from year to year, but the invitation is for everybody to come".

"Although I can't remember exactly what happened, I don't deny it", Proctor said in his statement.

Coach David Kidwell said he was disappointed to hear of the accusations when he appeared on Channel Nine's Sunday Footy Show.

He then handed it to Bromwich and Proctor, who were said to have rolled up bank notes and taken the substance. He's stood down from his leadership role.

Proctor will learn his club's punishment later this week when he faces the Titans board, but has already stepped down as co-captain and from playing duties.

The NRL stars had left the scene by the time Police arrived and are yet to be charged, but were named in court.

Titans chief executive Graham Annesley was stunned by the revelations when contacted today by The Courier-Mail.

The Sydney Roosters outside back was arrested at the Ivy nightclub in Sydney at about 1am on Friday after allegedly being found with 0.46 grams of cocaine by police.
