Logano Holds Off Teammate To Win Richmond

Logano Holds Off Teammate To Win Richmond

Logano got by Larson and pulled away from the field, earning his first win of the young season. He became the seventh driver to win a Cup race in 2017 and he did it in his 300th career start in the series.

Logano qualified fifth on Friday but had to start at the back after a transmission change.

"Oh, man, coming from the back, for one, being the 300th start...man, that feels really good", Logano said, adding that Keselowski had the faster auto and was closing big time on him at the end.

"I knew how fast Brad was - he was the fastest auto", Logano said. Earnhardt finished 21st and 20th in Stages 1 and 2, respectively, before using a good restart late to finally break into the teens. "I think there were four Fords in the top five and that's something to be proud of as well". But fresher tyres meant Logano quickly moved up to second and then took the lead.

The gamble paid off when the final caution was trigged by Ryan Blaney hitting the wall with a punctured tyre, a regular trend throughout the race.

Keselowski held on for second, followed by Hamlin, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kevin Harvick.

Vettel's second place meant the German extended his standings lead to 13 points over Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, who trailed in fourth after suffering overheating trouble.

Kyle Busch looked to be challenging for victory after bouncing back from an early pitlane penalty, only to get another at the last stops.

But as he was following eventual race victor Joey Logano into the pits on lap 378, Busch swerved to get as low as he could around the orange box but could not get all four tires below.

Ryan Newman, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. all took a chance when the rest of the field started making green-flag stop with about 80 laps to go.

Over its four weeks in the artificial womb, the lamb started to grow a wool coat, gained weight, and even opened its eyes. After four weeks, they were put onto a regular ventilator, where researchers observed almost ideal health conditions.

"I don't know what to do", a discouraged Earnhardt said. "It wasn't a great day. Got some work to do for next time but all in all it's a - wish we were better". "I don't know, but that's the last thing you want to have happen with a teammate".

"The last restart there were about six or seven cars that stayed out and we got behind one that was going really slow", he said.

"I'm optimistic that we know where we need to be, and we'll be there soon-ish". "We finished right where we should have". "Not all that awesome, but we just had bad luck".

Busch finished 16th and was clearly not happy after the race as he stormed off only to tell Fox Sports that NASCAR's ruling was "balls and strikes", in reference to the violation he felt was a judgment call. The tire uncontrolled tire forced him to the rear.

But Team Penske gave Logano a vehicle he patiently drove into the top 10 before the halfway point.

Kevin Harvick is another driver who has had several strong races without a victory to show for it in 2017. Denny Hamlin 7 5. (18) Kyle Larson, Chevrolet, 400, 38. 15. McMurray, -116; 8. Johnson, -128 [10]; 9.

Clint Bowyer has quietly been running better and better each week.

Earlier, at the start of the race, it took less than one full lap for rookie Erik Jones to run into trouble when he made contact with the No. 5 Hendrick Chevy of Kasey Kahne. K.Larson, 398; 2. M.Truex, 358; 3.

Kyle Busch had looked to challenge for victory but two pitlane penalties dropped him to 16th, while polesitter and stage one victor Matt Kenseth was 23rd following a late puncture. Just three laps later, the left-front tire on Jones' vehicle failed, throwing his No. 77 Furniture Row Racing Toyota into the wall.
