Israeli Missile Shoots Down Syrian Aircraft That Crossed Border

Israeli Missile Shoots Down Syrian Aircraft That Crossed Border

The Israeli military said it deployed its Patriot missile defence system to tackle the projectile incoming from Syria above the Golan Heights.

Al-Manar is affiliated with Hezbollah, an ally of the Syrian government.

Rami Abdurrahman, head of the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said the blasts were heard across the capital, jolting residents awake.

A fuel tank and warehouses were damaged, the Sana news agency said.

Israel said the explosion was "consistent" with its policy, but it stopped short of confirming it was responsible.

"The Syrian army and its allies will work to thwart the new Israeli plot on the occupied Golan border and will continue to destroy the enemy's collaborators", an anonymous Syrian military source told the Lebanese news site el-Nashra.

Reuters reported that intelligence sources believe the targeted depot handles a significant volume of weapons sent by air from Iran. "Naturally, I don't want to elaborate on this".

Lawmakers settle on $1T plan to avoid US gov't shutdown
The deal includes $1.3 billion to extend health insurance benefits for more than 22,000 retired mine workers and their widows. Trump's request for additional immigration agents was denied and the IRS budget would be frozen at $11.6 billion.

But Intelligence Minister Israel Katz, speaking to Army Radio from the United States, appeared to confirm involvement.

Israeli officials have previously said they view any movement of advanced weaponry to Hezbollah units in Syria as a "red line" that would prompt it to carry out air strikes or artillery fire in the past.

"We consider that all countries should avoid any actions that lead to higher tensions in such a troubled region and call for Syrian sovereignty to be respected", Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters when asked about the attack.

22 February 2017: Israeli aircraft reportedly bomb several Syrian air bases near Damascus, including a Hezbollah convoy travelling with the Syrian army. The group has thousands of forces inside Syria fighting on behalf of the Syrian regime.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, missiles hit a weapons depot reported to hold missiles destined to be transferred to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last April confirmed that his country had struck Syria "dozens of times".
