Chinese jets intercept US aircraft over East China Sea, US says

The U.S. said Thursday that two Chinese SU-30 jets conducted an "unprofessional" maneuver over worldwide airspace above the East China Sea.

"Although we are still learning about the incident, initial reports of the crew of the United States described it as unprofessional".

Two Chinese fighter jets intercepted an American military plane over the East China Sea, the US Air Force said Friday. "Each interaction is different, and in this case, we are not providing more specifics as we would rather discuss it privately with China through our Military Maritime Consultative Agreement meeting and through diplomatic channels". This incident was interpreted as unsafe and also inadvertent by the Navy.

The U.S. aircraft, a WC-135 Constant Phoenix, is used by the Air Force to detect atmospheric traces of nuclear explosions.

The last major aerial encounter between the United States and China in the Yellow Sea came in 2015, when a U.S. RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft was intercepted 80 miles east of China's Shandong province, in worldwide airspace. The aircraft is able to monitor nuclear weapons testing and can track radioactive activity by collecting samples of particles and chemical substances.

Trump, South Korea's Moon agree to cooperate on North Korea

Lighthizer Backs Reversing `Dangerous' American Trade Trajectory
Any deal, however, would need agreement from the US sugar producers who brought an anti-dumping case against Mexican competitors. The U.S. sugar lobby wants Mexico to export less refined sugar and has become emboldened since Trump took office.

In a separate incident on Thursday, US ally Japan scrambled warplanes after four Chinese coastguard ships and a drone aircraft entered territory it claims around disputed islands in the East China Sea, according to Japanese Defense Ministry officials, cited by CNN.

The Chinese military has become increasingly unhappy with American surveillance in the East China Sea and in Southeast Asia in the South China Sea, where Beijing claims full sovereignty in an ongoing dispute with USA allies in the region such as the Philippines. The U.S. Air Force said it was on a routine mission in global airspace.

She said the WC-135 was carrying out a routine mission at the time and was operating in accordance with global law.

The Air Force has two WC-135s operating out of Offutt.

China's Defense Ministry however, reportedly said the us was just "hyping up the issue".
