BCCI likely to pick Indian team for Champions Trophy on May 8

BCCI likely to pick Indian team for Champions Trophy on May 8

"The BCCI secretary will convene the meeting". The ICC approved a new constitution, a new governance structure, and a new finance model.

A section of the BCCI has been pushing acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary, who was at the meeting when the Indian board was outvoted, to send a notice to the ICC asking why the BCCI should not revoke the MPA. The letter also directed the BCCI not to pull out of the Champions Trophy without their (CoA) consent.

BCCI lost the vote by a big margin which indicated that all the other board is happy with the new revenue system. Kumble, reportedly wrote the letter ahead of much anticipated Special General Meeting, which will more-or-less decide whether the defending champions will participate in the tournament or not.

With the new revenue model getting the nod, BCCI will now have to do with what they have in the eight-year cycle.

Members Participation Agreement. It's an agreement between the ICC and a member country that governs participation in ICC events.

"To apprise the General Body of the BCCI on the discussions held with representatives of other Member Boards of the ICC and on the decisions taken at the ICC Meetings held on the 24th of April, 2017 and the 26th of April, 2017 and to take all necessary decisions pursuant there to", the circular stated.

So what does this CoA think about all this?

Earlier, the Committee of Administrators - appointed by the Supreme Court - had asked the BCCI against taking a strong stand as that would hamper future relation between the ICC and the BCCI.

The BCCI's point, repeatedly argued by various of its revolving cast of administrators, is that India generates up to three quarters of global cricket revenues and must, therefore, get the lion's share of the money the ICC makes.

Although there have been reports that India are set to feature in the tournament and the squad for the same will be announced on May 8 which has got delayed beyond the deadline and had everyone anxious. But it goes not agree with the BCCI's confrontational approach to the problem.

The CoA also told the representatives of the state units that negotiating with the world governing body to raise their demand to $570 million is out of question.
