'World's strongest' coffee makers boast 'dangerously high' caffeine levels

'World's strongest' coffee makers boast 'dangerously high' caffeine levels

While a typical 12-ounce dark coffee from Starbucks contains 195 milligrams of caffeine, the Black Insomnia Coffee - created by Sean Kristafor - contains 702 milligrams of caffeine in a 12-ounce coffee, according to Today.

Black Insomnia Coffee, first available in South Africa a year ago, announced a deal with Amazon to bring its ultra-caffeinated beans to the USA market. Researchers with the Mayo Clinic say the coffee may not be safe.

But don't go downing an 12-ounce cup of the world's strongest coffee just yet.

They boast that the coffee has "dangerously high levels of caffeine".

Beside those with arrhythmias, individuals who should be wary about drinking the Black Insomnia coffee are those suffering from migraines, anxiety disorders, pregnant woman and those who take drugs that can stimulate the heart.

Cape Town, South Africa-based Black Insomnia proudly acknowledges its product is in no way part of a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

"We're the leader in the strong coffee category and are not letting up anytime soon", Death Wish customer service representative Calden Tuller told CNN.

Death Wish said they were "not scared" about the competition from these "new kids on the block".

"Don't come crying to us if you can't handle the kick", the company's website reads, next to the promotional hashtag #sleepingischeating. The commerce company sells a range of caffeinated products, including drinks, pills, eye creams, inhalers and shampoos. An independent reference site known as the Caffeine Informer, has also backed-up Black Insomnia's claim.

"We are very aware of the limits and there are clear warnings on the labels", said Kristafor of Black Insomnia.
