Uber wants to launch 'flying cars' by 2020

NY [U.S.], April 26 (ANI): Uber is literally aiming for the skies as the tech company announced that it has struck partnerships with the cities of Dallas and Dubai to demonstrate a network of flying cars by 2020. "Our goal is in five years that Blade will enable New Yorkers to reduce the time and friction of their commutes on an on-demand basis".

Speaking on stage at conference in Dallas, Uber product chief Jeff Holden, who called flying cars "a natural next step" for Uber, said talks with Nasa and the Federal Aviation Administration had already taken place.

According to Holden's keynote speech, Uber plans to begin flying these vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) vehicles in cooperation with the cities of Dallas and Dubai by 2020. "It's really east to demonize a vehicle", Holden says. The company confirmed that it was working on the idea of flying taxis which will be able to take its customers from one point to the other.

You may not realise it, but flying-cars are slowly becoming all the rage and are very much seen as being the next big thing in transport.

. While creating a real, viable urban air taxi network isn't going to happen tomorrow, this future is closer than many people realize.

State Department uses government website to promote Trump's private country club
Mark Toner, acting spokesman for the State Department, declined to comment on Monday, saying he hadn't seen the posting. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) criticized the State Department for "promoting" Trump's private business using "taxpayer $$".

"Flying cars have been promised for decades, but are arriving now". Instead, the tech giant believes the demand for a faster aerial commuting option already exists among its 60 million monthly users-especially if the flying taxi service can cost about the same as hailing an UberX vehicle. But those hurdles have not stopped Uber and other Silicon Valley tech companies from launching aggressive initiatives to develop flying vehicles.

For those in Australia hoping to try the flyer, Kitty Hawk does not have plans to ship the aircraft overseas. Two weeks before the Uber summit, Boeing announced a collaboration with JetBlue Venture Capital Partners and Kirkland, Washington-based start-up Zenum Aero, which is also focused on developing small and regional-jet sized hybrid-electric aircraft. Together, they plan to create what Uber has dubbed the Uber Elevate Network.

Aurora Flight Sciences, Pipistrel Aircraft, Embraer, Mooney and Bell Helicopter are the aircraft manufacturers working with Uber. Right now, everything seems to be in the concept stages, as Uber spent most of its keynote talking about how it is cultivating the partners it needs to bring Elevate Network to fruition. Google co-founder Larry Page's startup Kitty Hawk released a video on Monday that showed one of its VTOLs flying over a lake, hovering about 15 feet in the air, with a rider straddling it like a motorcycle.
