Newsreader's reaction after being caught daydreaming live on-air

Newsreader's reaction after being caught daydreaming live on-air

Australian news anchor Natasha Exelby reportedly lost her job with ABC24 after she was caught spacing out on live TV.

And now a legion of supporters have blasted ABC for its "ridiculous, humourless overreaction" to the TV presenter's on-air blooper.

Unfortunately for Exelby, it appears as though execs at the ABC failed to see the amusing side, with The Daily Telegraph reporting that she will not be allowed in front of the camera again in the wake of her very public stuff-up. "Natasha is a freelance journalist who works as a contributor", a statement by News Director Gaven Morris read.

"While she is not now doing any on-air shifts, this will be subject to normal performance management".

The video of Exelby's shocked reaction with a loud gasp has now gone viral after it was posted on Facebook (watch below). "Myself and my mesmerising pen honourably salute you!" she said.

In their supportive messages, many prominent journalists revealed the same thing had happened to them a couple of times.

Morris said he wants Exelby to continue working for the ABC as a freelancer.

Wells claws back $75 million from top execs in sales scandal

Secret Service agent suspended after meeting with prostitute
The agent was arrested and charged with solicitation, and later self-reported his arrest to the Secret Service, CNN reported . The hotel manager had become suspicious of the activity in the room and called local police.

However, she did not let the lag affect her presentation skills. She, however, regained her composure and professionally transitioned the program to a sports report.

Lisa Barnes tweeted: "I danced in my seat in the news booth in between audio grabs, not realising we were live streaming the news bulletin".

It was not long before a petition began calling on the ABC to "reinstate" Exelby. Several years ago, she giggled repeatedly while reading serious news items about deaths and disasters for Channel Ten.

Ms Exelby received a message of support from actor Russell Crowe who wrote: "Come on ABC - Australian Broadcasting Commission - talk about an overreaction to an overreaction".

After a story from Queensland wrapped up over the weekend, the camera cut to Exelby fiddling with her pen.

She recovered well and has since scored a new fan base.
